How can I identify Silver and Silver Jewelry from costume jewelry? In the jewelry trade, sterling silver is identified as 925 silver or SS. This identification may be tagged or engraved on each piece of jewelry. The exact composition of any piece of jewelry can be determined by a laboratory specialized to perform such an analysis, also known as an assay, and certify the jewelry in question. Most costume jewelry have a brass base metal. All of our jewelry are set in fine 925 sterling silver, so you can be assured that you are not getting a cheap piece of jewelry.
Many times nickel (Ni), a hard metal, is placed between the coating and the silver because it facilitates the adherence of the plating to the metal. Silver, when used in jewelry, is usually in the form of sterling silver. Rhodium is a hard, durable, silvery-white metallic element that is used to form high-temperature alloys with platinum and is plated on other metals to produce a durable corrosion-resistant coating. Sterling silver jewelry that is plated with rhodium is resistant to scratching, abrasion, and corrosion.
Can I re-size your silver rings? Silver rings that are not plated can be re-sized. However, those that are plated with gold or rhodium cannot be re-sized because re-sizing can ruin the plating on the ring.
What are the differences between cubic zirconia and a natural diamond? * Cubic zirconias have less sparkle than a diamond, but they have more fire.
* Hardness. CZ has an 8.3 on the Mohs' hardness scale vs. a rating of 10 for diamonds.
* Specific gravity. CZs are heavyweights in comparison to diamonds; a CZ will weigh about 1.7 times more than a diamond of equivalent size. Obviously, this difference is only useful when examining loose stones.
* Flaws. Contemporary production of cubic zirconia is virtually flawless, whereas most diamonds have some sort of defect.
Why are your cubic zirconia jewelry in millimeters? How can I tell the size of a cubic zirconia compared to a natural diamond?
Because a cubic zirconia is roughly around 1.7 times heavier than diamond, our cubic zirconias are measured in millimeters instead of carats (weight). Please refer to the following chart to determine the millimiter to carat conversion when compared to a natural diamond.
